Quincy Haunted Mine 2020
This project was designed and built as the Senior Capstone Project for my BS Theatre and Entertainment Technology Degree from Michigan Tech during the Fall Semester of 2020. It was designed and built as a walk-through haunted attraction for historic Quincy Mine, located in Hancock, Mi. Unfortunately, due to the COVID-19 pandemic the attraction was only experienced by a small number of guests. This resulted in a more intimate approach to the creative design. I was given full creative liberty on the design of the project as long as it fit the theme of a haunted mine. I was inspired by the work of Marc Davis to take a more light-hearted approach on the theme.
My role in the project was the “Creative and Technical Designer/ Lead Fabricator”. I was also responsible for the lighting design, scenic painting and set dressing. I had help from Dave Peterson (Production Assistant and Photographer), Tristan Bonifield (Fabricator) and Glenn Bulthuis III (Voice Actor). I was advised by Kent Cyr on the project.
Special Thanks to Quincy Mine Hoist Association and Michigan Tech’s VPA Department.
